Bulk Uploading Agencies

The bulk upload feature allows you to add multiple agencies to your Turris account at once.

Read the step-by-step guide below or check out the video walkthrough.

When to Use Bulk Upload

While Turris typically handles bulk imports during initial onboarding, you can use this feature to:

  • Add groups of new agencies after initial setup
  • Import agencies you've collected offline
  • Migrate agencies from other systems
  • Manage the import process yourself

Required Information

To bulk upload agencies, you'll need the following data for each agency:

Required Fields

  • Agency Identifier (one of these):
    • NPN number (preferred)
    • FEIN number
    • State license number with state code (e.g., CA + license number)
  • Primary Contact:
    • First name
    • Last name
    • Email address
  • Agency Type:
    • Agency
    • Agency Network
    • Wholesale Brokerage

Optional Fields

  • Producer code (for internal tracking)
  • Additional reference numbers

Note: Agency legal names are automatically pulled from NIPR based on the NPN number, so you don't need to include them.

Step-by-Step Bulk Upload Process

Step 1: Prepare Your Data

  1. Download the CSV template from Turris (recommended)
  2. Enter agency data with one agency per row
  3. Include all required fields
  4. Save as CSV format

Step 2: Access Bulk Upload

  1. Navigate to the agency management section
  2. Click on Bulk Upload
  3. Select your CSV file

Step 3: Map CSV Headers

After uploading, the system displays your CSV headers:

  1. Review the header mapping
  2. If your headers don't match the template:
    • Use the dropdown menus to map your headers to Turris fields
    • Example: Map "NPN" in your file to "Agency NPN" in Turris
  3. The system intelligently suggests matches, but verify accuracy
  4. Click Continue when mapping is complete

Step 4: Data Extraction and Verification

The system processes your data:

  1. Extracts information from your CSV
  2. Automatically retrieves:
    • Legal names from NIPR
    • FEIN numbers (when available)
    • Additional agency details
  3. Review the populated data for accuracy
  4. Check that all required fields are complete

Step 5: Submit the Upload

  1. Verify all agency information looks correct
  2. Click Submit to complete the bulk upload
  3. Agencies appear in your account immediately
  4. Processing continues in the background

Post-Upload Management

Licensing Compliance Check

After upload, the system automatically:

  • Verifies licensing status
  • Checks compliance requirements
  • Flags any issues for review

Data Synchronization Options

You can control when to start syncing agency data:

Manual Sync (Default):

  • Agencies upload but don't sync immediately
  • Allows you to review before activating
  • Helps manage costs by controlling when agencies count toward your cap

Automated Sync:

  • Enable automatic data synchronization
  • Starts pulling licensing data immediately
  • Updates appointment status for admitted products

Cost Management

Important considerations:

  • Agencies don't count toward your NPN cap until you sync their data
  • This allows you to upload agencies for review without immediate cost impact
  • Use manual sync to control when agencies become active in your billing

Alternative Upload Methods

Manual Entry

If you have just a few agencies:

  1. Click Manual Entry instead of CSV upload
  2. Enter agency identifier (NPN, FEIN, or state license)
  3. System auto-populates agency details
  4. Add contact information
  5. Select agency type
  6. Submit

API Integration

For ongoing bulk additions:

  • Use the Turris API for automated uploads
  • Ideal for regular agency additions
  • Contact support for API documentation

Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions:

  • Missing Legal Names: This indicates invalid NPN numbers
  • Header Mapping Errors: Double-check your CSV headers match expected fields
  • Upload Failures: Verify CSV formatting and required fields are complete
