Setting Up Compliance Requirements for New Insurance Products

Setting up compliance requirements for your insurance products ensures that only properly licensed producers can sell each product in the appropriate states.

Read the step-by-step guide below or check out the video walkthrough.

Accessing Product Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings in your dashboard
  2. Click on the Products tab
  3. If you've already set up products, you'll see a list of your existing products with their configurations

Creating a New Product

Step 1: Add Product Details

  1. Click Add New Product
  2. Enter the following information:
    • Product type (e.g., BOP, Commercial Auto)
    • Product description (optional)
    • Commission rates
    • Filing number
    • Carrier selection:
      • For admitted products: Select the admitted carrier
      • For E&S products: Optionally set the carrier

Note: The carrier information is used to display appointment status for admitted products and enable automated appointments.

Step 2: Select States

You have several options for state selection:

  • Select individual states one by one
  • Click Select All and then remove specific states
  • Include or exclude territories as needed

Step 3: Apply Compliance Template

Choose from available templates:

  • P&C Commercial Template - For commercial lines products
  • P&C Personal Lines Template - For personal lines products

These templates pre-configure common compliance requirements, saving you setup time. If you have common setting you use, let us know so we can add additional templates for you.

Step 4: Save Your Product

Click Add to create your product with the selected states and template.

Customizing State Compliance Requirements

Modifying Individual State Requirements

  1. Click on your product from the products list
  2. Select the specific state you want to modify
  3. Uncheck Default Compliance Requirements
  4. Configure custom requirements for that state

Setting License Requirements

For each state, you can specify:

Agency Level Requirements:

  • Producer type (e.g., Insurance Producer, Surplus Lines Producer)
  • Lines of Authority (if applicable, e.g., Property & Casualty, Personal Lines)

Agent Level Requirements:

  • Same options as agency level
  • Can be configured independently

Creating Multiple Compliance Paths

You can set up multiple acceptable license combinations using "OR" logic:

  • Example: Accept EITHER "Insurance Producer with P&C lines" OR "Surplus Lines Producer"
  • This flexibility accommodates:
    • Grandfathered licenses
    • Different home state vs. out-of-state producer codes
    • Various state-specific requirements

Working with Compliance Templates

The provided templates cover most common scenarios:

  • Most P&C customers use the P&C templates
  • Templates include standard producer authority requirements
  • Limited lines carriers/MGAs may need specific lines of authority

Best Practices

  1. Consult Your Compliance Team: Work with your attorneys or compliance team to ensure correct setup for each state
  2. Use Templates When Possible: Templates are pre-configured based on common requirements
  3. Document Custom Requirements: Keep track of why certain states have custom configurations
  4. Test Your Setup: Verify that the right producers can access the right products in each state

Understanding the Compliance Check

The platform automatically compares:

  • Producer licenses and lines of authority
  • Product compliance requirements
  • State-specific rules

This ensures only compliant producers can sell each product in their licensed states.
